Get To Know Ismael

Hi Y’all!

I was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and have been living in Chicago since Fall 2019.

After graduating with a degree in journalism and music education from Texas A&M University — Kingsville, I worked as a journalist at The Victoria Advocate, The San Antonio Express-News and The Chicago Sun-Times. While at the Sun-Times, I became a national award-winning columnist writing on topics such as insecurities with sexuality, living with someone who has an addiction and being raised by immigrants.
That work led me to start an advice column called Someone in Chicago.

Now, with Ask Ismael, I will provide compassionate and insightful advice tailored for the younger generation (and those who are young at heart). This is a safe, judgement-free platform where people can seek guidance on relationships, finance, mental health and more. If something has made you happy, angry, uncomfortable, confused, excited — LET IT OUT HERE!
